CRITICAL PRAISE FOR “YOU SHUT DOWN”
“Here's another slab of excellence. Fluid Japan's “Afterlife” track blew us away a month ago and their latest release [“You Shut Down”] shows more signs of a total amazing album coming at some point!” — ELECTRONIC CAFÉ

“Like Xymox getting on like a house on fire with Simple Minds’ [bassist] Derek Forbes. In 1984! Lend your ears.” – POST-PUNK MONK, music reviewer.

Beginning with an interlude of moody, shimmering synthesizers and mournful strings, “You Shut Down” ignites with a grinding, saturated bass guitar line and echoing guitars that could power onto any Xymox album.
While the song pushes post-punk and gothic, “You Shut Down” boasts rousing vocals and layered, harmonized choruses that harken to Peter Murphy, New Order, or The Church infused with a 60s vocal band. The lyrics, at first dark, then affirming, deal with finding strength and not shutting down in the face of adversity, broken relationships, and the innate pressure to conform. The song rallies around an uplifting chorus of “You should go down fighting,” delivered by both vocalists; then converges into a dizzying unison crescendo, before fading into contemplation.
“You Shut Down” was mastered by Paul Gomersall, legendary recording engineer for Trevor Horn’s ZTT label, engineer for Howard Jones’ U.S. #1 single “No One Is to Blame”, and for artists including Kate Bush, Genesis, Echo & the Bunnymen, Propaganda, Chapterhouse, and Prefab Sprout.
